Meet the CrossFit Coaches

Our CrossFit coaching staff is one of the most experienced in the business, with decades of combined experience not just in CrossFit, but many other fitness aspects as well. These trainers are equipped with all the passion, compassion, and knowledge they need to take your fitness to the next level.
  • Kyle Flynn

Co-Owner Kyle Flynn has been CrossFitting for an impressive seven years and has been into strength and conditioning since he was 15. He was turned on to CrossFit by his sister, who told him to check out the CrossFit website to see the “brutally hard” workouts. He started teaching himself, joined a local affiliate for a free Saturday class, and has been coaching ever since.

Kyle specializes in teaching beginners by taking advanced fitness concepts and making them accessible and obtainable for new members. “I love coaching members and finding that one cue that finally clicks for them, you see their eyes light up, and they go on to crush whatever task they had on hand,” he says. “By the way, Country Fridays are an institution at Old Line while I am coaching, so don’t ask to change the music ;).”

  • Jason Galindo

Co-Owner Jason Galindo is passionate about all aspects of exercise science and specializes in odd object lifting, powerlifting, and gymnastics modalities. He’s been CrossFitting since 2010 and enjoys “leading people from a life of sickness to a life of elite fitness,” he says. “Being a part of that process and watching people progress through the sickness-wellness-fitness continuum is extremely rewarding.”

Jason is a 20-year retired Air Force Aerospace Medicine Technician and has always been a multi-sport athlete, and after spending nine years in the commercial gym industry, he converted to CrossFit. “The basic concept of CrossFit, increased and measured work capacity across broad time and modal domains, better suited my own philosophy concerning athletic development,” he says. “CrossFit gyms were better suited and equipped to provide this structure to my clients.”

She’s been CrossFitting for five years, and she’s passionate about getting the most out of her athletes. “I love when you see someone have that ‘ah-ha’ moment when it finally clicks for them,” she says. She’s been a dancer her entire life and has danced professionally with numerous companies as well as being a Radio City Rockette in New York City.

She’s always had a passion for movement and was considering becoming a yoga instructor before a friend introduced her to CrossFit. “I loved the challenge,” she says. “I knew I wanted more.” Her favorite quote is “What you put in is what you get out.”

  • Katie Patel

Yoga Instructor Katie Patel helps members gain mobility for better form on movements and to give their bodies proper recovery from the WODs. She’s been CrossFitting for five years, so she knows exactly how punishing WODs can be … and how rejuvenating yoga can be for tired, sore muscles. In fact, that’s why she got certified as a yoga instructor – to teach this class and help her fellow athletes use yoga to recover just like she did after her own workouts. Her favorite quote is “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”

    • 200 Hour Certified Yoga Instructor
  • Justin Nickel

CrossFit Coach Ruckfit Director Justin Nickel believes that the right mental state is the first step to achieving anything – especially in the gym. “I love taking someone from ‘I can’t’ to ‘I can’ and seeing the look on their face when they do something for the first time,” he says.

CrossFit was life changing for Justin. “It was love at first WOD and the fitness regimen I never knew I needed,” he says. “I love everything CrossFit – trying to be better every day as well as help EVERYONE be the best version of themselves. I’m a firm believer in having a positive attitude.”

Justin wants people to know one thing – he’s much more approachable than he looks. “I’m not THAT scary or intimidating … and I’m the nicest guy I know,” he says.

  • Johnny Roye

Coach Johnny Roye used CrossFit to train for MMA, which got him into trying to do his own CrossFit workouts in a globo gym six years ago. “I found it really pushed me mentally just like MMA did,” he says.

He went to get his level 1 so he could work out at a box for free. “Up to that point, I had never been inside a CrossFit gym, nor did I know the lingo,” he says. “When I got there people were like ‘What box do you go to?’, and I was like ‘What the hell is a box?’ They started name dropping all this CrossFit stuff. I told them I had no idea what they were talking about.” He ended up passing the course that weekend, with a goal of being a member for a year and slowly working his way into the coaching. “In the end, that’s exactly how it panned out,” he says.

  • Erika Theisen

CrossFit Coach and Nutrition Specialist Erika Theisen is passionate about healthy and active living. She’s been CrossFitting for four years and specializes in nutrition. Erika played and coached soccer for the University of Maryland Varsity Women’s Soccer Team, but after graduation, she didn’t have much time to coach full time, and that’s when she found CrossFit. “After doing CrossFit for a couple years, Kyle asked if I had ever considered coaching CrossFit, and that’s when I decided to get certified and back into coaching,” she says. Her favorite quote is “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

Steph started CrossFit as a way to improve her health and fitness and fell in love with the group camaraderie and the workouts themselves. Today, she’s passionate about “getting women into shape and having them accomplish fitness goals that they never thought possible,” she says. “Also, old school hip hop will be played in my class at all times … unless my mother says otherwise.” Her favorite quote is “I want people to feel the heat while they walk down the street and they’re just kickin’ it.” -Missy Elliot

  • Nate Gremba

Coach Nathan Gremba is passionate about fitness and bettering himself and others. “By raising your level of physical and mental fitness, you are able to live a happier, healthier and longer life,” he says. “There’s no secret pill, no shortcuts. You need to put in hard work every day to get results. I love being a part of a community that fully understands that and encourages everyone to be the best they can be.”

Nathan discovered CrossFit right here at Old Line after several years of inactivity. “I tried to get back in shape by trying several different workout regiments at local gyms with little to no success. I decided to give CrossFit a try and started working out at Old Line CrossFit in December 2014 and never looked back.”

  • Sheelen Patel

CrossFit Kids Director and CrossFit Coach Sheelen Patel started CrossFitting five years ago and says he was no different than any other member. “I once was in their shoes as a beginner CrossFitter looking to make a change in my life,” he says. “No great accomplishments in life were ever made because you were afraid. Be confident in yourself and the results will follow.”

Through CrossFit, Sheelen found the passion for competing on a daily basis not only with himself but with other members. “I became a CrossFit coach because I was interested in sharing all of the knowledge I was given with others trying to achieve their own personal life goals,” he says. “Becoming a CrossFit coach merged two of my greatest passions – athletics and conversing with people.” His favorite quote is “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein

  • Melissa Allison

CrossFit Kids Coach Melissa Allison loves teaching kids about fitness and showing them how much fun it can be. “I love seeing them come back week after week wanting to learn and do more and seeing all the progress they have made,” she says.

Melissa found CrossFit after becoming bored at her globo gym. She was immediately hooked. “I became a coach because I saw a need for a kids program,” she says. “I was more than happy to go through the training and help start the program with Fez and the Old Line owners. It’s been an amazing and very rewarding experience.”

    • CrossFit Level 1
  • Liz Shear

CrossFit Coach Liz Shear has been CrossFitting for six years and specializes in Olympic weightlifting. Her favorite part of coaching is when someone does something for the first time that they never thought possible. “Things like holding themselves on the rig or jumping on a box with two feet for the first time are my favorite,” she says.

Liz was a competitive swimmer as well as a half-back on an ODP soccer team in Germany for four years. She got hooked on CrossFit because of its progressions, the group environment and the camaraderie, and becoming a coach was the natural next step. Her favorite quote is “I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself.” – DH Lawrence
